Kia Sportage fifth generation introduced in 2021.
In this iteration, the Sportage has two versions. Sold conditionally in South Korea, the United States and some other countries "long" variety (4 660 mm). And in Europe and Ukraine - "short" (4 515 mm). By the way, their wheelbase is also different: 2,755 mm versus 2,680 mm, but you can visually distinguish them by the stern: a larger car has additional windows, and a smaller car has “deaf” body pillars there.
The design of the “fifth” Kia Sportage was created according to the canons of the new philosophy Opposites United (United Opposites). While working on the look of the model, Kia artists drew inspiration from the opposition of the forces of nature and the technological progress of mankind. From this and such a contrast of the sculptural forms of the body panels of the sidewalls, the sharp forms of the front end and the futuristic lighting elements of the stern.
Kia's signature Tiger Nose-style grille echoes that of the Stinger's liftback. At the same time, boomerangs of daytime running lights are woven into the elements of the grille, on the sides of which blocks of the main headlights are placed. The bumper is not visually overloaded with any protruding parts and acts as a link with decorative elements on the doors (note the transition of the chrome line from the rear wheels to the framing of the foglight sections).
Further, we consider only the European version of the model. The trunk capacity of such a car is 591 liters (measured according to VDA), which is 46 liters less than that of the “global” model, but at least not inferior to European competitors in this segment. The rear seatback can be folded in a ratio of 40:20:40. With the rear seat fully folded down, the luggage compartment increases to 1,780 liters.
Conceptually, the interior design echoes new Kia Sorento — virtual tidy and display of the media system are arranged under one glass, while most of the front panel is focused on the driver. The microclimate control unit combines touch buttons and physical switches, and instead of the usual automatic transmission selector knob, a rotating “washer” has appeared. The control buttons for auxiliary systems have moved from the center console to the tunnel between the driver and passenger.
Among the electronic assistants included in the equipment of the new Sportage is the FCAA frontal collision avoidance system with the function of preventing collisions with oncoming traffic when turning left. Adaptive cruise control is also available, working in conjunction with lane keeping and speed enforcement. In addition, the cruise can now detect curves and turns in the navigation maps in order to reduce speed to a safe one in advance. After the road is leveled, the automation restores the set speed.
As for the configurations for the Ukrainian market, the Kia Sportage with a naturally aspirated 2.0 MPI engine (NU generation, G4NM version) with the Smartstream marking will go on sale first. This motor, according to the manufacturer, differs from the previous unit of the same volume in optimized thermal management, increased compression ratio from 10.3: 1 to 10.8: 1 and a decrease in friction losses in the cylinders. This power unit develops 156 hp. and 192 Nm.
Gearboxes for the 2.0-liter engine: a 6-speed “mechanics” on front-wheel drive cars, which will be available only in the basic configuration, and a classic 6-speed “automatic” with a torque converter. Versions with automatic transmission can be either front- or all-wheel drive. Moreover, the two top configurations will be only 4WD.
There is no very simple version like the previous model at the start of sales. The starting package called Comfort includes six airbags + a central airbag between the driver and front passenger. A lane control system and pedestrian recognition with automatic braking are also provided. There are heated mirrors, steering wheel, front seats, front seat height adjustment, auto-dimming interior mirror, cruise control, air conditioning, an 8.0-inch touchscreen media system (with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), 6 speakers, a rear view camera. The back of the second row folds in a ratio of 4:2:4, there are central armrests, DRLs and headlights - LED, alloy wheels (17 inches), and a dokatka is hidden in the trunk.
In more expensive trim levels, LED foglights and LED lights appear (in the basic version they are combined). Roof rails, climate control are also installed, paddle shifters appear in all-wheel drive versions, other combinations of interior materials are used, wheel diameters can reach 19 inches, and the combination of a digital dashboard and a 12.3-inch multimedia complex screen becomes the icing on the cake.
Kia Sportage of Slovak assembly is officially delivered to Ukraine.
