Kia Stinger - a five-door rear- or all-wheel drive fastback, created based on the 2011 Kia GT concept. World premiere of a production car took place in January 2017 at the Detroit Auto Show, and European - in March of the same year at the Geneva Motor Show. Competitor to the Audi A4, BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, Infiniti Q50 and Jaguar XE.

The Stinger was created under the direct supervision of Kia chief designer Peter Schreier and head of sports car development Albert Biermann. Development tests of the model were carried out not only on public roads, but also at the famous Nürburgring in Germany. According to Gregory Guillaume, Head of Kia's European Design Center, the Stinger is "a real gran turismo, a car for long journeys, which is characterized by high power, uncompromising dynamics, expressive design, luxury and comfort."

A new five-door Kia was built on a modernized platform of sedans of the Korean premium brand Genesis (a division of Hyundai Motor Group) with McPherson struts in front and a rear multi-link, while 55% of the chassis components are made of high-strength steel grades. All modifications of the Stinger are equipped with an 8-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Five driving modes are available to the driver: Personal, Eco, Sport, Comfort and Smart. They change settings for power steering, dampers (on vehicles with four-wheel drive), boost pressure, and shift speed.

The basic version is rear-wheel drive, with a mechanical limited slip differential and a petrol 2.0-liter turbo engine of the Theta II family (247 hp and 353 Nm). Accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 240 km/h. At the same time, the manufacturer claims fuel consumption in the combined cycle - 9.2 l / 100 km.

The "older" modification of the Kia Stinger is equipped with an all-wheel drive system and a 3.3 V6 Lambda II engine (370 hp, 510 Nm). Accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, and top speed is limited to 270 km/h. The declared consumption of gasoline in the combined cycle is 10.6 l / 100 km.

In some European countries and Korea, a diesel Kia Stinger is also sold with a 2.2 CRDi turbo engine familiar from other Kia models (200 hp, 400 Nm). This unit is also mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and is available in both rear and all-wheel drive versions. Acceleration from standstill to “hundreds” of diesel Stingers takes 7.6 seconds, and fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 5.6 and 6.4 l / 100 km for rear- and all-wheel drive modifications, respectively.

The basic equipment of the Stinger includes: driver and passenger airbags, side airbags, side curtains and a driver's knee airbag. In addition, the car is equipped by default with an active hood (the function of shooting the hood in a collision with a pedestrian), a blind spot monitoring system, an electric fifth door and dual-zone climate control. At the same time, the driver's seat is adjustable in 8 directions and in the lumbar area, and is also equipped with a settings memory. The on-board computer is complemented by a projection on the windshield, there is cruise control, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, engine start with a button, a panoramic roof, a multimedia system with an 8-inch touch screen and wireless charging of smartphones.

Kia Stinger is produced in South Korea.
