Kia Soul EV - front-wheel drive electric car based on Kia Soul second generation (PS). In the same year, the electric car went on sale in South Korea, Europe and the United States.
Kia Soul EV competitors:
From the original ICE car, the Kia Soul EV inherited its distinctive design and characteristic angular profile. The distinguishing features of the electric version of the Soul include a solid insert between the headlights (it has a folding section with J1772 and CHAdeMO charging ports), a different front bumper, as well as original rims and lighting equipment.
The cabin of the electric version of the Kia Soul features better materials as standard, a two-tone design and a digital instrument panel on organic (OLED) light-emitting diodes. By the way, this was the first Kia model with such equipment. In addition, electric vehicle features include LED charge indicators under the windshield and advanced climate control with an on timer and the ability to operate exclusively in the driver's zone. In place of the “automatic” selector, there is a mode selection lever, where, in addition to the usual “P” (Parking), “R” (Rear, reverse), “N” (neutral) and “D” (Drive), the “B” mode is added ( Brake) with intensive recuperation and the most economical operation of the power plant.
The Korean electric car is equipped with an 81.4 kW (109 hp) engine and 285 Nm of torque, a gearbox and a lithium-ion polymer traction battery located under the front and rear seats. Initially, a 27 kWh battery was used, which was enough for 150 km of driving in the US EPA test cycle. Starting with the 2018 model year, the Soul EV received a new “battery” with a nominal capacity of 30 kWh, as a result of which the range increased to 179 km. The Kia Soul EV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.3 seconds and has a top speed limited to 145 km/h.
The battery in the underground "eats" part of the free legroom for the rear passengers and the trunk - 250 liters for the Soul EV instead of 340 liters for the usual Soul with an internal combustion engine. In this case, the back of the second row is folded in the proportion of 60/40.
The equipment of the Kia Soul EV electric vehicle includes a hill-start assist system, a tire pressure monitoring system, an electronic stability control system (ESC) and a dynamic stability control system (VSM). The latter helps to stabilize the vehicle during simultaneous braking and cornering or during dynamic acceleration, especially on wet, slippery and uneven roads. Also, the car is equipped with front and front side airbags and curtain airbags. Depending on the configuration, the equipment may include heated front seats and steering wheel, keyless entry and other options.
Kia Soul EV is produced at the Kia Motors plant in Gwangju (South Korea).
